TV Shows That End At :01

There’s a disturbing trend.  A lot of TV shows end at :01.

For example, “Top Chef” ends at 11:01, but “The Daily Show” starts at 11:00.  If I set the cable box to start “The Daily Show” at 11:00, then I miss the last minute of “Top Chef”.  Similarly, “The Colbert Report” frequently ends at 12:01 or 12:02.

It’s a subtle reminder that you’re a captive audience in a monopoly.  There’s no logical reason to end a show at :01, other than to inconveniece customers who want to record another show on another channel.

    • Some shows, such as The Daily Show and The Colbert Report, sometimes include interesting content in the final minute. Also, my Time-Warner cable box auto-channel-change service won’t work if the timers overlap.
